The Difference Between ARDEX WPM 750 and 1000

ARDEX is one of the world’s most trusted brands in waterproofing. Originating from quality German engineering, ARDEX has expanded globally, including the establishment of ARDEX Australia to provide exceptional waterproofing products right here in this great southern land.

Two of our most popular waterproofing solutions are ARDEX WPM 750 and ARDEX WPM 1000. We’re often asked, ‘What are the key differences, and which one should I use?’ It’s a fair question. Both products have their advantages, but they also have their own particular uses and situations that help them excel.

Join us, as we explore why a proper waterproofing barrier seal coating is important, as well as in which situations to use WPM 750 versus WPM 1000.

Why Waterproofing is Crucial

It is no secret nor surprise that waterproofing is a crucial element to any building project. Practically every new build is going to have a water supply attached as well as being at the mercy of the elements, including wind and rain. This means that restricting the movement of water to where it is supposed to be is absolutely vital.

A waterproofing membrane acts as a barrier coating to prevent damp surfaces from forming in sensitive locations making it essential for protecting freshly laid surfaces, including tiles and hardened concrete among others.

From damaging a freshly laid hardened concrete slab to causing rot, mould, or mildew to form within the timber frames, waterproofing helps preserve the construction’s integrity and improves its lifespan. High-quality membranes like ARDEX provide a formidable waterproofing barrier against moisture, dampness, and mildew. But which product is best for which waterproofing situation?

Overview of ARDEX WPM 750

ARDEX WPM 750 Weldable Waterproofing Membrane is a fleece-lined waterproofing sheet membrane.

It’s specially designed for the direct adhesion of tiles and screeds within internal wet areas, such as showers and bathrooms.

It’s heat-welded at the laps and seams which allows a superior sheet membrane to be created with a consistent thickness. This allows quick installation to occur.

Overview of ARDEX WPM 1000

The ARDEX WPM 1000 is a polypropylene-lined heat weldable waterproofing sheet membrane, perfectly suited for non-exposed areas subjected to high moisture, such as raised pavers and decking. While it should not be subjected to UV, the WPM 1000’s durable formula is ideal for areas with consistent water exposure, including basements and retaining walls. However, where the ARDEX WPM 1000 truly excels is its direct adhesion to tiled surfaces, so wherever you’re laying down tiles, choose the WPM 1000 to get the job done.

Key Differences Between ARDEX WPM 750 and 1000

Both WPM 750 and 1000 provide superior waterproofing but serve different purposes and are suitable for various applications.

WPM 750 is designed primarily for internal wet areas such showers and bathrooms along with other spaces requiring direct adhesion for tiles and screed. It is highly compatible with selected ARDEX tile adhesives and liquid-applied membranes, making it a versatile choice for internal waterproofing.

On the other hand, WPM 1000 is the best bet against environments that are facing constant water exposure. It does an exceptional job of keeping moisture damage from spreading out of showers, baths, bathroom basins, and other sinks around the house, working effectively alongside tile adhesives.

Choosing the Right Product for Your Needs

So, which is better? Well both, and either. For indoor situations in showers and bathrooms WPM 750 is perfect.

The WPM 1000 is more suitable where strong, consistent and impenetrable waterproofing is required.

From damp concrete basements, tiled decks to showers and bathrooms, anywhere that moisture is ever-present, choose WPM 1000 to keep your interior and exterior spaces dry and free of mould and mildew.

The ARDEX For Your Build is Just a Call Away

Installing an ARDEX waterproofing membrane is your best bet for protecting your new build. Both ARDEX options explored above are excellent for forming a barrier coating to prevent sensitive locations, like walls and floors, from developing damp surfaces and the mould, mildew, and structural damage that can occur.
