Description

ColorPrep 3 in 1 Primer-Sealer-Undercoat is a premium quality water-based acrylic preparatory coating, designed to even out porous surfaces, seal stains, promote adhesion and provide a suitable base on which to paint a variety of coloured top-coats. It has been specifically formulated for interior and exterior use, with both water-based and solvent-based coatings, creating an ideal foundation for even and presentable finishes.

Areas of Use

ColorPrep 3 in 1 Primer-Sealer-Undercoat can be used over most exterior and interior surfaces. It is suitable for preparing paper-faced plasterboard, set plaster, hardboard, soft porous timber, and general masonry surfaces. It is not a suitable primer for metallic surfaces.

Preparation

Prior to painting

All surfaces to be thoroughly cleaned and free of scale, dust, dirt, oil and grease. If oil or grease is evident, wash with a suitable detergent/degreaser and then rinse with fresh water before application. Thoroughly remove kalsomine with warm water, detergent and a stiff brush. If mould is present, treat the surface with an anti-mould solution, and then rinse with fresh water before application.

Previously painted surfaces should be scraped free of all loose and flaking paint using a paint scraper or wire brush. Any painted or glossy surfaces should be lightly abraded with suitable sand-paper until slightly rough to touch.

Fill any cracks, holes, or joins with a suitable filler and sand back until smooth and flush to the surface.

Application

• Stir thoroughly prior to use with a broad, flat paddle using an up and down scooping action for at least 5 minutes.

• The product is supplied ready for use, but for more absorbent surfaces can be thinned with water up to a maximum of 10%.

• Apply one even coat, covering smaller rather than large areas at any time.

Brush:
Apply liberally and lay off with tip of the brush.

Roller:
An 8–10 mm nap roller is recommended for general use, however a 20 mm nap is suggested for use on rough or textured surfaces.

Spray:
Use a 4–5 mm tip, preferably with an airless spray system, thinning sparingly with water.

Coverage
12–14 m²/L dependant on the porosity and texture of the surface.

Clean-up
Reseal containers immediately after use.
Clean all equipment while paint is still wet with water, keeping away from drains and open watercourses.

Storage and Shelf Life
Store in a cool, dry place in sealed containers. Shelf life before opening is 24 months.
Once opened and resealed, ideally use the remaining contents within 6 months.
